Our first time out Geocaching was a little interesting - we were not sure exactly what we were looking for and we only had our GPS for a day or so. I had read the GPS (Magellan Explorist 200) instructions and was feeling pretty comfortable with my new toy - but my whole family was counting on me to make it work.

We set out for our first find - The Settlement of Adult Kirk.

Getting to the location was not difficult - it was in our home town and close by. Once we were there things got a little trickier. Now let me preface the next comments by stating that the rest of my family had never seen a typical Geocache container before - I had gone out with a friend earlier and had somewhat of an idea.

Once we were in the general area the whole family started looking - ok - everyone but me who was way too fascinated with my new toy. The GPS led us to believe that the cache was somewhere in the midst of a big set of bushes. We sent in the kids to have a look and they came out empty handed. Convinced it was the GPS and not my kids we tried walking in circles to see if the GPS was off a bit. We even called a friend who refused to help [I guess the "phone a friend" help is not available here] but told me to trust he GPS.

My wife (Sandra) decided to head back over to the bushes and I started to look on the other side of a fence. Witin a few moments Sandra came out of the bushes bellowing the words we all wanted to hear - “Found it!”

Excitedly we tore open the cache to see the loot! Wowzee! Our first cache! We signed the log book and placed it back in its plastic bag while the kids labored over what they should trade. 10 minutes later - with a trading decision made - we packed up the cache and placed it back carefully where we found it.

We headed off with big smiles eager to move to our next find. We did 4 more that night with successful finds at each location. By the end of the night we were hooked!
